Be Prepared

Preparing for natural disasters is crucial for residents and business owners in Alaska. In 2018, the state was shaken by over 55,000 earthquakes, including a significant 7.0 magnitude quake near Anchorage on November 30th. Additionally, fires and severe storms are common in Alaska’s ecosystem and can cause extensive damage to life, property, and resources. Proactive planning for these events is essential to save lives, time, and money.

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has the primary day-to-day area-wide responsibility for natural and human-caused disaster management, community preparedness and mitigation planning programs and activities. Visitors to our site can view disaster response and mitigation plans, preparedness information, and other important information. The OEM also coordinates the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteer program.

Visit the Office of Emergency Management home page to sign up for KPB Emergency alerts to receive emergency notifications on your cellphone. You can also follow KPB Alerts on Facebook and Twitter.
